PrescQIPP videos promote self-care to CCG members across the UK

Videos to promote self care

Who?

PrescQIPP is an NHS funded, not-for-profit organisation that supports quality, optimised prescribing for patients.

PrescQIPP produce evidence-based resources and tools for primary care commissioners, and provide a platform to share innovation across the NHS. Most of their materials are publicly available, however since PrescQIPP’s spin out from an NHS Strategic Health Authority in 2013, has grown to build a successful subscription-based model, providing a range of data and intelligence tools, webinars and events for over 75% of the UK commissioning organisations.

Why?

The PrescQIPP annual work plan is created in collaboration with subscribers via local and national meetings and online consultation.  Self care was identified as a priority for the 2015/16 work plan and the addition of videos to support implementation of the self care and other resources had been mentioned multiple times by subscribers.

In addition, a self care survey sent to PrescQIPP subscribers found that:

  • 92% of survey respondents said that they were doing work on self care in their area, with most of the work being around minor ailments
  • 63% said they had encountered problems implementing self care
  • 61% said they would welcome videos supporting self care, with nobody saying they would not want videos

They hope that the use of video will help overcome some of these issues.

How?

As a Patient Information Forum member (Pif) I took a look at the other members and found Health and Care Videos.  I then met them at the Pif Annual Conference and decided that the service they offered could be the solution to support our members’ needs.  We create resources for up to 50 topics each year and so any videos that we produce to support our resources need to be cost effective and HCV’s way of working proved to offer that.  It also seemed like a good fit between our organisations as we are both focused on creating content for health and care providers to improve patient care in a ‘do once and share’ approach

The result of this collaboration was the production of two NHS branded self care videos – one public facing and one member facing (for internal and training purposes) to be made available to all PrescQIPP subscribers.  Here’s an example of the video:

Testimonial

The whole production process was simple, clear and quick with the only delays being caused by ourselves! We provided Health and Care Videos with the brief, they then drafted the scripts which then went through the PrescQIPP quality assurance process and out for comment to patient engagement groups, to ensure watertight content.   We are very pleased with the results and very keen to get the videos out to our members for them to start reaping the benefits’.
