Torbay Council

As a result of the Care Act 2014, Torbay Council has obligations for the development and provision of advice to carers. As part of the Better Care Fund, which seeks to join-up health and care services so that people can manage their own health and wellbeing, Torbay Council enlisted Health and Care Videos to develop a Library of information resources for the Torbay Council website and the websites of voluntary organisations across Torbay.

Brixham Does Care

Brixham Does Care is a registered befriending charity which attempts to combat loneliness, isolation and despair and enhance quality of life, education and health and social welfare. They offer support to people of all ages and client groups in communities.

Brixham Does Care was the first voluntary organisation to go live with an Informal Carer Library on 21/12/17. Visit the Brixham Does Care Library here.

Torbay Community Development Trust

The Torbay Community Development Trust (Torbay CDT) was formed with the intention of making Torbay a place where all people feel included.  The Trust empowers communities, building on strengths and skills through Asset-Based Community Development.

Healthwatch Torbay

Healthwatch Torbay is the local consumer champion influencing, responding, improving and monitoring health and social care services in Torbay. They provide local people, community and voluntary groups with a voice to influence the planning, purchasing and provision of these services. This independent, local consumer champion supports the public to promote better results in health for all and social care for adults.

Carers Aid Torbay

Carers Aid Torbay is a local Community Interest Company providing a range of practical and emotional support services to ease the stresses of unpaid Carers across Torbay.

Torbay Advice Network is a quality assured Charity which supports the advice and information sector in Torbay.

Torbay Age UK

Torbay Age UK are a local charity providing advice, companionship and support for people over 50 in Torbay.

Torbay Mencap

Torbay Mencap is a registered charity and have been active in the community for nearly 70 years. They raise money for sustainable projects helping local people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Crafty Fox Cafe n Hub

Crafty Fox Cafe n Hub’s aim is to reduce isolation, bring the community together and support local residents in the Foxhole area of Paignton. They provide not only a safe space to gather but a place to receive specialist advise, help with local services and job searches.

Rowcroft Hospice

Every year, Rowcroft Hospice helps over 2000 people in South Devon living with life-limiting illnesses and their families to make the most of every day. Their team of doctors, nurses, social workers and other health and social care professionals provide specialist care at both inpatient and outpatient services.

Visual Eyes Torbay

For Blind and partially sighted people having a choice is not always an option. Therefore, VisualEyes is a dedicated Social and recreational club for Blind and visually impaired people which provides a vital role in helping people from becoming isolated and lonely across the whole of Torbay.

 Torbay Dementia Action Alliance

The Torbay Dementia Action Alliance was born on 12th January 2012. It was formed as a steering group to try and make Torbay the first Dementia Friendly resort in the country.

Torbay Parent Carer Forum

The Torbay Parent Carer Forum (PCF) is run by a group of volunteer parent/carers and were first established in February 2009 as part of the Government programme ‘Aiming High for Disabled Children’. The programme was designed to support parent/carers to have a voice in how services for disabled children were shaped and delivered locally.

Love 2 Care are a fresh approach to the traditional home care service. The people they support are at the heart of everything they do and they focus on what matters to their service users and regularly review this to reflect changing needs.

The Purple Angel

Purple Angel upholds the principle that people with dementia have an absolute right to enjoy a good quality of life and continued involvement in their local community so far as they are able and willing to do so. The depth and strength of that principle is the driving force behind the continued efforts to address negative attitudes and ultimately reverse them, raising awareness and understanding of the impact the disease has on individuals and their families.

Play Torbay is a small, dynamic, voluntary sector organisation championing children’s play across the Bay. Offering free, exciting play opportunities and programmes of adventurous activities in partnership with organisations, parents and local people.

Headway Devon is a local charity dedicated to improving life after brain injury. They provide essential services across Devon and Torbay for people with acquired brain injuries, their families and carers.

Disability Support Torbay’s aim is to make a positive difference to the quality of life of people with disabilities, health and mental health issues. Their principles are based on people working together to encourage independence, empowerment and respect.

Independent Age

As well as offering regular friendly contact and a strong campaigning voice, Independent Age provides older people and their families with clear, free and impartial advice on the issues that matter: care and support, money and benefits, health and mobility.

The Independent Age Library is currently in development.

Devon in Sight

Devon in Sight is a local charity providing a range of practical help and advice to people affected by sight loss, with the aim of promoting independence, wellbeing and choice.
